A shimmer of firelight skips across the surface of the water, piercing your eyelid momentarily. You awaken groggily, face pressed into the seashore. Cool, white sand squeezes between the toes of bare feet as you stand upright. Warm seawater laps around your ankles as you wade out of the crystalline blue, a sanded hand pressed firmly to your brow. Eyes strain; sunburnt skin pulled taut by a deep squint. Something foreign forms on the horizon, where jungle meets shore.
Dusk; the sun gone, moonrise not yet begun. Indiscernible, a moving, breathing mass. Shadows circle rhythmically, in and out, emanating and returning. As you draw near, the silhouettes begin to take shape in the firelight: hooded figures, sunken eyes, painted faces, shrunken heads swinging from belts, candles melting, staffs adorned with animal skulls.
Then came the sound *thump, thump, thump, thump* Distant at first. Steady. There were no words, there was no time, there was only voodoo.
Make waves, get stranded, and shake off evil spirits of the week with Make It Funky & Redisco at El Rio. A badman lineup of djs, Soundboys, and selectors guarantees that metaphoric temperatures will be hot and humid – sultry perhaps?

If your San Francisco experience has featured a long-night of wild dancing followed by a mean hangover, chances are it’s his fault. A community-first man, Dials is behind a slew of SF’s top shows, club nights, special events, and raves. When he’s not organizing events of his own, he’s helping friends with theirs or Djing somewhere in this city. Say hello, say thanks – keep an eye out for the hat.
Support by Make It Funky residents Onemohit & Fortune and Redisco resident Eric Jacobs. You know the drill, the words ‘funky’ and ‘disco’ are explanation enough.
